当地时间6月4日，应Jianhan Chen教授邀请，周耀旗研究员访问了麻省大学阿默斯特分校（UMass Amherst），并作题为“Structure Prediction from Proteins to RNAs: Going beyond AlphaFold”的学术报告。

周教授在LSL 410会议室与校内师生分享了他在蛋白质与RNA结构预测领域的最新研究成果，探讨了当前人工智能方法在复杂生物大分子建模中的机遇与挑战。当天上午，周教授还与化学系多位师生进行了深入交流，并于中午与研究生代表共进午餐，下午继续与多位教授进行一对一学术讨论。

此次访问促进了UMass Amherst与深圳湾实验室在计算生物学和结构生物信息学领域的学术合作与交流。

近日，深圳湾实验室周耀旗研究员团队与亚洲多国科研团队协同合作，在国际顶级期刊 Nature Biotechnology 发表题为《A framework for building a synthetic cell from the SynCell Asia initiative》的重要论文，提出首个亚洲合成细胞技术路线图，为全球合成生命领域发展贡献亚洲智慧与中国力量。
